Anna Bauer is the Piano
Program Director of the Goshen College Community School of the Arts, where
she oversees instruction of the 100 + CSA piano students. She also offers
support and supervision to the Goshen College students who study piano
pedagogy in the College curriculum. Anna has taught students of all levels
over the past 14 years, and is fluent in Russian, German and English languages.
Brook Bennett, cello - M.M. SUNY-Purchase, B.M. Cleveland Institute
of Music.
Brook Bennett has been a faculty instructor with the CSA
since September, 2004. A registered Suzuki cello instructor, Bennett studied
Suzuki pedagogy with Catherine Walker and at the Chicago Suzuki Institute
with Barbara Wampner. Bennett is also a faculty member in the Credo Chamber
Music Association's "Opus 1" program
and was a faculty member in Credo's 2007 summer program. He is a former
faculty member of the New York City-based Amadeus Conservatory of Music and
Musika.
Amos Burkholder, clarinet, saxophone,
recorder - A.Mus
D. and M.M. University of Oregon, B.A. Goshen College.
Amos Burkholder
has taught applied woodwind lessons to students of all ages, and has
served as a college instructor at EMU (Va.), and Goshen College, where
he taught music education courses and directed instrumental ensembles.
At Goshen College, he founded and directed the Early Music Consort.
He has also organized the Maple City Recorder Consort of the Goshen
community.
Lyn Buschert, violin and viola - B.A. Goshen College.
Lyn Buschert is an active community and church musician, including
serving as concertmaster of the Maple City Chamber Orchestra. She has
studied Suzuki pedagogy with experienced local teachers, and began teaching
for CSA in 2003. In addition to her teaching, Lyn plays often in varied
chamber music groups for special events in the surrounding area.
Jenny Campagna, Kindermusik® - B.A. Anderson University.
Jenny Campagna has taught Kindermusik classes through the CSA for six years. A licensed Kindermusik educator, Campagna has taught courses in Goshen, Mishawaka (Ind.) and Lima (Ohio). She is also active as a church musician and children's choir director at her local church.
Manica Gentry, piano - Performer's Certificate, Trinity College
of Music, London (Thailand).
Manica Gentry has taught piano lessons
to students through the CSA for 4 years. Before that time she taught applied
piano to students from grades 3 through 8 at Trinity College of Music and
Royal School of Music (Thailand), and was also a piano teacher at St. Joseph
Convent School and the Progress School in Thailand.
Sandy Hill, voice, Shout for Joy Children's Choir - M.M. University of Texas at Austin.
Coloratura soprano Sandy Hill has taught private vocal instruction
in the Goshen community since moving here with her family in 1999, and
before that at the Wausau Conservatory of Music (Wis.). She has performed
on Wisconsin Public Radio's Live From the Elvehjem, and has appeared
in a variety of musical and operatic roles. She was chosen as an intern
to participate in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Internship
Program at Pennsylvania State University with master teacher Jean Westerman
Gregg. Sandy has taught voice with the Community School of the Arts since 2003 and has directed Shout for Joy Children's Choir since 2008.
Rebecca Hovan, flute - M.M. North Texas University, B.M. Middle
Tennessee State.
Rebecca Hovan teaches applied flute through the
CSA and is also a music faculty member at Goshen College and Indiana University-South
Bend. Hovan was a winner of the National Flute Association Masterclass
Competition, and has given workshops at NFA conventions, various universities
and flute festivals. She is presently Chair of the NFA Pedagogy Committee
and is co-author of the Blocki Flute Method Book II.
Debra Kauffman, violin - B.A. Goshen College.
Debra Kauffman has taught in the Goshen College Suzuki program
since 1983, and also served as its director from 1990-97. That program
is now part of CSA, for which she gives general oversight through her
current work as Associate Director of the Music Center.
Beverly Lapp, piano - M.M. Westminster Choir College, B.A. Goshen
College.
Associate
professor of music at Goshen College, Beverly Lapp teaches applied piano
and piano pedagogy, along with music appreciation courses. She coordinated pre-college
piano instruction for Goshen College in the years before the Community
School of the Arts was organized. Beverly serves as co-chair of the Committee
on Practica and Internships for the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy,
and writes regularly on issues in piano pedagogy for publication. She also co-directs
the annual Goshen College Piano Workshop and Academy.
Rosemary Rupp, Rejoice! Children's
Choir - M.S.E. Indiana University
at South Bend, B.A. Goshen College.
Rosemary Rupp has more than
25 years experience teaching elementary school music, and currently
teaches at West Goshen and Prairie View schools. She is also
active as a church musician, leading children's choirs for many
years. She began her association with CSA in 2006 as director
of the Rejoice! Children's Choir.
Kathryn Sherer, piano - M.M Southern Methodist University, B.A. Goshen College,
further study at Royal College of Music & Guildhall School, London.
Kathryn Sherer
teaches applied piano through the CSA and is professor of music emeritus at Goshen
College, where she founded the Goshen College Preparatory and Pedagogy program
in 1966. She also helped establish the summer Piano Workshop and Academy which
has been held at Goshen College since 1968. A noted pianist, she performs as
soloist and accompanist for Suzuki string students, and is continuo player for
the Elkhart Symphony and Maple City Chamber Orchestra.
Lukas Simpson, guitar and mandolin.
Luke has studied classical
guitar, jazz and guitar theory, and taken additional studies at the Old
Town School of Folk Music in Chicago. He has taught students of all ages
and levels for several years, and has been associated with CSA since
2005. For the past 4 summers, Luke has also taught and directed at
Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Guitar camps in three Indiana locations. In addition
to his private teaching, Luke is a singer/songwriter and performs
regularly with the Goldmine Pickers.
Christine Thögersen, organ, piano, piano for special needs - M.M.
Illinois State, B-Exam Berliner Kirchen Musikschule, B.A. Goshen College.
Christine Thögersen has been affiliated with Goshen College for 10 years where she teaches applied organ and piano, music education and music appreciation courses. In the Community School of the Arts Chris teaches organ, piano, and piano for special needs students. She is also a part-time elementary school music teacher in the Fairfield school system.
Rosalyn Troiano, Suzuki String Director - D.M.A., Eastman School
of Music, Rochester (NY).
Rosalyn Troiano is the Suzuki String Director of the Goshen
College Community School of the Arts, where she teaches private violin
and viola students, Suzuki group classes, and directs the Home School
Orchestra. Rosalyn received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2000
from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester (NY), where she was teaching
assistant to viola professor George Taylor. She also studied Suzuki pedagogy
with Anastasia Jempelis and Christophe Bussuat. In April 2006, Rosalyn
was awarded the Shinichi Suzuki-American Suzuki Foundation Teacher Training
Scholarship to study Suzuki pedagogy with Goshen College alumnus and
author Ed Sprunger at the American Suzuki Institute in Stevens Point,
Wisconsin.
Jessica Weber, piano - M.M. University of Oklahoma, B.M. Western
Michigan University.
Jessica Weber has taught piano students through the CSA
since 2004, and directed its piano program activities from 2004-05.
Jessica studied piano with Marvin Blickenstaff at Goshen College during
her high school years and attended the Goshen College Piano Workshop
Academy as a student. She is an active member of MTNA and IMTA, serving
as chair of the District B Hoosier Auditions. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in piano performance at Ball State University under Dr. Robert Palmer.
Brian Wiebe, violin - M.M. Northwestern University, B.A. Bethel
College (Kan.).
Brian Wiebe has served as a high school and college music teacher and
orchestra director in Kidron, Ohio and Bethel, Kan. In both locations he also
founded and directed Suzuki violin programs for young children. He is an experienced
violin and viola teacher to students of all ages, and is also an active church
musician. Brian has been at Goshen College since 2002, when he became the Executive
Director of the Goshen College Music Center. He has also recently been named
director of the Elkhart County Symphony Association's Youth Honors Orchestra.
