About the Facility
Dedicated in October of 2002, the Music Center’s official opening was a culmination of more than five years of intense planning. Maynard and Carolyn Sauder chaired the music building steering committee, coordinating efforts to see that the dream of such a facility became reality. A gift of $5 million from the Lilly Endowment, Inc. was the largest single contribution to the project, though more than 700 households contributed financially to make the building possible.
The Music Center is open from 6 a.m. to midnight every day that college classes are in session. Limited hours may be in effect at other times. The Music Center Office and Listening Room are open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. during days when classes meet. Questions? Call (574) 535-7361.
The building committee chaired by Provost John D. Yordy, along with Project Manager John D. Nyce, worked closely with architects Schmidt Associates Inc., acoustic consultants The Talaske Group and general contractor Casteel Corporation. Together they produced the award-winning facility that has proven to be versatile, practical and aesthetically pleasing.
