Special Features
Throughout the building, visitors will see evidence of the Center’s commitment to artistic development and excellence. The Music Center has many special features, including traditional instruments, state-of-the-art technology, and visual art.
With the purchase of a Steinway grand piano in 1950, the Goshen College music department began its investment in quality instruments. A harpsichord and collection of many fine early music instruments soon followed. In 1970, College Mennonite Church installed a pipe organ, which the college used for instruction and performance. The Music Center now houses updated versions of these instruments, along with state-of-the-art equipment for making and enhancing music.
Visual art strategically located throughout the building provides yet one more aesthetically pleasing experience for the Music Center visitor. Miriam Schapiro’s “In the Heat of Winter” print and Vera Klement’s multiple media work "Narcissus and Echo” are two works by noted contemporary artists which are featured in the Music Center.
