2005-2006 Performing Arts Series
The Performing Arts Series is pleased to offer this outstanding lineup for our eighth season of bringing world-class performers to Elkhart County. From the memorable music of Colm Wilkinson of Phantom of the Opera and Les Misèrables to the gospel music of The Blind Boys of Alabama, the 2005-2006 Goshen College Performing Arts Series features a wide variety of musical genres and performers from across the country.

1. Nanci Griffith and the Blue Moon Orchestra

Friday 09.09.05 7:30 p.m.
Five nominations and two Grammy awards give recognition to Nanci Griffith's
musical accomplishments. The journey of this acclaimed singer-songwriter
has taken her from folk and country roots to performances in venues such as
Carnegie Hall and London's Royal Albert Hall. Collaborating with her
long-time band, The Blue Moon Orchestra, Nanci's performances are marked with
distinct voice, brilliant songwriting and uncommon emotional commitment.
2. International Sejong Soloists with Eugenia Zukerman,
flute

Sunday 10.23.05 4:00 p.m.
Praised as a "top notch conductor-less string orchestra" by The
Washington Post, ISS has given critically acclaimed concerts at venues such
as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and in many cultural centers of Europe
and the Far East. They were recently featured as Young Artists-in-Residence
on NPR's Performance Today , and since 1997 have served as ensemble-in-residence
at the Aspen Music Festival.
Eugenia Zukerman, one of the finest flutists of our time and well known as a TV personality and arts commentator, collaborates with ISS in this concert appearance.
3. Colm Wilkinson

Saturday 11.19.05 7:30 p.m.
To lovers of musical theater around the world, Colm Wilkinson definitely
needs no introduction. Best known as the original Jean Valjean
in Les Miserables and creator of the role of Phantom in Phantom
of the Opera , Colm has mesmerized audiences in London, New York,
and beyond. In this appearance, Colm will perform his stage show Some
of My Best Friends Are Songs , which has been bringing audiences to
their feet around the world.
4. Fort Wayne Philharmonic and Chorus

Sunday 01.22.06 3:00 p.m.
In celebration of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's 250th birthday, the Fort Wayne
Philharmonic will collaborate with Goshen College's Chamber Choir
and their own Philharmonic Chorus to present Mozart's beloved Requiem. Maestro
Edvard Tchivzhel and the orchestra will also perform Symphony No.20
in D Major .
5. The Blind Boys of Alabama

Friday 03.10.06 7:30 p.m.
The Blind Boys of Alabama have spread the spirit and energy of pure soul gospel
music for over 60 years. Since 2001, they have enjoyed a remarkable comeback
with their most recent albums earning them unprecedented popularity and introducing
them to a completely new, contemporary audience. With four consecutive Grammies,
The Blind Boys of Alabama continue to expand the very definitions of gospel
and soul.
6. Clarinettist Richard Stoltzman and pianist Peter Stoltzman

Friday 03.31.06 7.30 p.m.
Clarinet and All That Jazz will be performed by this father-son
duo, which has delighted audiences at world-renowned venues including Carnegie
Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw. Performances and
masterclasses have taken the Stoltzmans throughout the United States as well
as Italy and Japan. They have also been featured on CBS Sunday Morning and
NPR's Performance Today and have recently released their first
collaborative CD.

The Peter Rowan and Tony Rice Quartet

Saturday 02.11.06 7:30 p.m.
Two of the most influential musicians in American bluegrass music today are
Peter Rowan and Tony Rice. Rice is recognized as an acoustic guitar virtuoso
in bluegrass, folk, and jazz-influenced new music. Grammy-award winner
and five-time Grammy nominee Peter Rowan is a soulful singer and a poignant
songwriter. Together they give a phenomenal performance.
